Neil Barrett’s FW17 campaign is a love letter to 80s London
By Alex James Taylor | Fashion | 8 August 2017

For his FW17 campaign, London designer Neil Barrett has tapped photographer Brett Lloyd to create a series of images evoking the designer’s Arts College years during the 1980s.

Refresh your mind to Barrett’s FW17 show and you’ll recall an 80s influence throughout: from the black tailored outerwear; to the Siouxsie Sioux motifs, etched onto scarves, trenches, and sweaters; to The Cure’s A Forest blasting out the speakers.

Shot in Hackney, East London, the campaign stars a combination of models and street-casts: Willow Barrett, William Allen, Celine Delaugère, Tyler Wright and first-timer Alfie Harris.

Studying at Central Saint Martins in the 1980s, Devon-born designer Neil Barrett found himself in the epicentre of a vibrant cultural youthquake. Between Ray Petri’s multi-faceted Buffalo movement and London’s No.1 sonic noir hangout, The Batcave – regulars included Nick Cave, Siouxsie Sioux, Robert Smith and Marc Almond – Barrett found a source of inspiration that continues to surge through his designs today.

This newest imagery acts as an homage to those informative days.
