For over fifteen years, the Serpentine’s summer Pavillion has been transformed into a cornucopia of architecture and performance: summoning the most exciting international names in art, music, theatre, dance, literature, philosophy and technology for an interdisciplinary smorgasbord of experimental energy. This year is no exception, with architect Frida Escobedo’s Mexican-inspired pavilion hosting a roster of eight international artists whose performances will respond to the airy, perforated design. As the youngest architect ever to receive the commission, Escobedo’s progressive appointment is echoed by the emerging talent that features alongside established names in the programme.

Musically, the line-up moves from Yaeji, the 24-year-old Korean American producer whose dreamy renderings of house and hip hop are among the most exciting in the world, to Kamasi Washington, the LA born sax prodigy who has already collaborated with the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Thundercat and BADBADNOTGOOD. The world of fashion is represented by TELFAR, the black-owned project founded in 2005 pioneering an alternative to mainstream fashion systems, and architecture by Pedro Reyes, whose sculptural works focus on engendering a collective agency. Other performances include legendary feminist artist Dorothy Iannone, Meriem Bennani, Victoria Sin and Megan Rooney, all of whom draw on performance and immersive environments to tell their tale.
