Stranger Than Kindness, a new exhibition dedicated to Nick Cave is set to open next March at Copenhagen gallery, The Black Diamond.

From The Birthday Party to the Bad Seeds, the exhibition follows more than 50 years of Cave’s life; celebrating the Australian’s ability to shape narrative into soul-searching worlds that twist mythical tropes with contemporary pop culture. Formed around large scale installations and original atmospheric soundscapes, the exhibition draws together more than 300 objects from Cave’s own collection, the Nick Cave archive at Arts Centre Melbourne, the collections of Royal Danish Library and a number of private lenders. These pieces include original artwork, handwritten lyrics, literature, photography, videos, set designs, and collected personal artefacts. What more, the soundscapes featured within the gallery spaces have been composed and recorded for the exhibition by Nick Cave and his Bad Seeds right-hand man, Warren Ellis.

An accompanying book, also titled Stranger Than Kindness, will be released to coincide with the Gucci-sponsored exhibition, combining images with commentary and meditations from Cave and writer Darcey Steinke, the publication will also feature an essay by acclaimed US writer Darcey Steinke.

This announcement follows the recent release of Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds’ seventeenth studio album, Ghosteen.
