Having worked key pieces from Rosenquist’s archive into his FW21 Lanvin collection, now Sialleli expands on that relationship, placing four of the artist’s key works – Yellow Applause (1966), Ultra Tech (1981), Morning Sun (1963) and Through a Glass Ceiling (2004) – in direct dialogue with the garments. The connection between artist and designer? Rosenquist is famed for appropriating commercial culture and spinning it into vibrant montage imagery – ruby red lipstick becomes a torpedo and jet engines are acid green pencils – mirroring Sialelli’s own fascination with collaging cultural tropes, blending heritage couture codes with tongue-in-cheek modernity: look no further than the designer’s FW21 collection film, a parody of Gwen Stefani’s Rich Girls MTV music video.
