For an aspiring band, performing at SXSW is a rite-of-passage that has fast-tracked the careers of many successful acts. Invited to play on this year’s line-up, Bristol trio Grandmas House were determined to get to the Austin festival and make themselves heard. Propelled by a successful crowdfunding campaign and with an acclaimed lockdown-recorded debut EP under their arm, the band made it happen, ripping up the desert stage with a performance that no doubt still echoes across the canyon. Before the band left the UK, we packed a Polaroid camera in their suitcase so they could document their landmark trip – here’s the resulting tour diary.

Being invited to play SXSW has been a dream and we can’t believe it actually became real. Seeing so much amazing talent in one place was really inspiring and we can’t wait to get back on the road. We’re actually in Switzerland at the moment to play two shows so it’s been very non-stop – just how we like it!!”
