As we eagerly await Raf Simons‘ grand arrival in London this September for his first ever runway show in the city, the Belgian designer’s affinity with the UK is explored further via his newest collaboration with Fred Perry.

And we’re going north, specifically Manchester, a city Simons has long drawn inspiration from: we’re all aware of his Joy Division/New Order fanboyism, those FW03 parkas and his collaborative relationship with Factory Records graphic genius Peter Saville.

Now, through Fred Perry’s own British subcultural sensibilities and silhouettes, Simons digs further. Sewn-on patches and embroideries are emblems for imaginary record labels, artists and song titles invented especially for this collection, while Manchester’s signature outerwear – the parka – takes centre-stage, featuring epaulettes, a drawcord waist, fishtail hem and comes covered in graphic patches, naturally. Elsewhere, Harringtons are crafted in cotton gabardine shell with a boxy fit and an unlined graphic blazer caters to an undone formality.
