When Tommy Met Richard
At first glance, the worlds of Tommy Hilfiger and Richard Quinn couldn’t seem further apart. One is rooted in the baggy, logomaniacal land of 90s hip-hop, while the other spreads itself over a studio in South London, printing avant-garde floral concoctions into glamorous full-body gear that exudes sex with every seam and pocket, despite being entirely indebted to kitsch.
And yet, in a recent merger of spirit and brand DNA, there couldn’t be a stronger synergy between them. “I’ve always been inspired by working with creatives who push boundaries, and Richard is no exception,” said Tommy Hilfiger. “We’ve brought together our two distinct aesthetics to create a rebellious take on modern Prep. It’s unexpected and optimistic, and reflects the playful spirit at the heart of both our brands.”

Quinn is similarly ecstatic about the collaboration, whose electrifying campaign (shot by Adrienne Raquel) spotlights sharp, monogrammed headgear not too dissimilar from Michelle Pfieffer’s Catwoman, swapping out latex and bulky white stitching for thick, body-hugging denim, leather harnesses and XXL thigh-highs. “Tommy and I share the same obsession for prints and textiles, so it was a natural joy to balance and combine our visions for this collaboration,” he elaborates. “We pushed ourselves to be dramatic and vibrant with every detail — in the pursuit of progress — and the final pieces do not disappoint.”
Quinn is certainly right about that last part, the fun continuing in studded leather jackets and red tartan suits, decorated with sprinkles of blue flowers that burst from the chest. There are bags with big chains, trousers cut with flappy side flares, embroidered trousers that soften their sexy counterparts, and gargantuan puffa jackets that reimagine Hilfiger and Quinn’s new partnership into contrasting symbols, a flower and interloping TH. The two have even devised six miniature pieces from the mainline for a children’s collection, offering reversible coats and patch-clad varsity jackets for the fledgling fashionistas of the world. How sweet!
