Jonathan Anderson‘s love of Studio Ghibli has already resulted in two excellent Loewe capsule collections, paying homage to My Neighbour Totoro and Spirited Away. Continuing his exploration into the Japanese animation company’s oeuvre, the designer now turns his attention to Hayao Miyazaki’s 2004 classic, Howl’s Moving Castle.

Here, the film’s fantastical characters and landscapes are translated across garments through Loewe’s craftful sensibility; feathers fall across wool overcoats and scenes from the film are printed in the lining of jackets. Ingeniously, Anderson has also created the story’s castle using collage remnants from signature Loewe bags. The collection is showcased by a playful campaign shot by Juergen Teller and starring Taylor Russell, Rianne Van Rompaey, Oliver O’Sullivan, Hyunji Shin – and a sheep.

“Blending hand-drawn and digital animation, Howl’s Moving Castle is technically innovative, exemplifying the power of craft as a bridge between the old and new – a creative approach that Loewe is proud to share,” shares Anderson. “In the collection, we pushed creativity with bold, intricately crafted pieces designed to bring the world of the film, literally, to life.”

What’s more, Loewe are taking over Selfridges’ Corner Shop space for a unique Studio Ghibli experience. Here, you can dine at Calcifer’s Kitchen, tasting foods inspired by the movie – including meadow-inspired sandwiches, vermicelli broomsticks, macarons, cakes and
cloud terrines – while screenings will be running at The Selfridges Cinema. The film’s original sketches will also be on show alongside behind-the-scenes footage from the campaign and the making of the Moving Castle bag. Oh, and you’ll know where to go, just find the giant inflatable castle at Marble Arch, and then wander down to the incredible, glowing Howl’s Moving Castle facade above Selfridges’ Corner Shop entrance.
