In a joint statement released today, Kering and Gucci announced Sabato De Sarno as successor to Alessandro Michele as creative director of the luxury powerhose.

There has been much speculation after the departure of Michele in November 22 as to who would replace the designer, who is credited with transforming the house during his tenure.

De Sarno will show his first collection during Milan Fashion Week in September this year – he has previously worked at Prada, Dolce & Gabbana and has been at Valentino since 2009, where his most recent position was Fashion Director, overseeing the label’s men’s and women’s collections.

Sabato De Sarno said: “I am deeply honored to take on the role as Creative Director of Gucci. I am proud to join a House with such an extraordinary history and heritage, that over the years has been able to welcome and cherish values I believe in.
