Reuse and refine
Harbouring a shared vision towards a more sustainable future of fashion, Dior and Parley for the Oceans first began an eco-innovative research project in 2019 which resulted in a series of new yarns and fabrics designed from Parley Ocean Plastic®. Born from upcycled marine plastic debris and fishing gear recovered from coastlines around the world, the materials are reworked in Dior’s Parisian ateliers. Following the success of the pair’s first activewear capsule collection last season, FW23’s collection is a continuation of the same codes built by Kim Jones and Parley’s CEO and founder Cyrill Gutsch.
Referencing Christian Dior’s fascination with nature, this Beachwear Capsule looks to the ocean’s depths for inspiration. Composed of 96 percent recycled fabrics, the collection merges comfort with elegance and fine-tuned technicality as pieces are designed to mix and match in a palette of subtle neutrals accented by splashes of coral and powdery yellow. Shorts, tees, sweaters and reversible jackets are turned into all-weather staples elevated by iconic motifs such as the Dior Italic or CD Diamond embellishment. Accessories arrive in the form of sleek sunglasses, bucket hats and the ultimate beach bum’s companion – a Dior surfboard.
Speaking on the collaboration, Gutsch said; “Wearing a piece of Dior x Parley is an act of rebellion, it shows that you care dearly. It shows that you want to solve the environmental crisis we are facing, in a creative and optimistic way. Together with Kim Jones and his fantastic team we have delivered the proof that driving the Material Revolution is not a sacrifice, but answers to a new desire. To protect the oceans, to protect our climate and to protect our future.”
