Art of Craftsmanship

Tim Walker’s surrealist lens captures Tod’s latest ode to Italian artistry

As Tod’s continues to honour its storied Italian heritage, the brand’s latest project is a collaboration with renowned British photographer Tim Walker. Holding a new lens up to tradition, Walker’s otherworldly eye takes Tod’s into a beautifully skewed sphere as he fuses the house’s signature codes of quality, craftsmanship and luxury with modern mastery.

Playing on proportions, tools meet their maker in Walker’s striking images as the phases of creation are given a hyperrealistic makeover. Models are chopped in half with scissors, engulfed by measuring tapes and stuffed into shoe boxes as the design process of iconic products such as the Di Bag or the Gommino are bought to life.

Titled The Art of Craftsmanship, the project unveils today during Milan’s Design Week, a fitting home for a collaboration spotlighting both Italian know-how and top-tier craft. Speaking on the collaboration, Walker said; “In this increasingly digital world, where so much is being created on an industrial scale by machines, the value of craftsmanship is increasingly precious. The people I met in the company and their experience were the real source of inspiration.”
The exhibition will be on display at Milan Design Week until April 22nd before travelling the world throughout the year.
