Reach for the stars
Rich Mix has put together an (inter)stellar programme for this year’s Sci-fi London Film Festival, compiling a line-up of immersive cinema from the international stage. A selection of shorts covering everything from cosmic thrillers to futurist dramas fill the agenda, Serpil Altin’s Once Upon a Time in the Future: 212 offers a witty take on George Orwell’s 1984, Javier del Cid’s The Eye and the Wall tells the story of a future totalitarian regime and John Barnard’s Wintertide takes place in a post-apocalyptic northern city. Also keep your eyes peeled for accompanying panel talks, workshops and immersive events taking place across the five-day festival.

Bathe in it
Charting the history of bathing scenes in the history of painting, Saatchi Yates’ latest exhibition Bathers is an ode to the ultimate summer muse. Inspired by the birth of Venus, the group exhibition traces the idea of bathing, from antiquity up until today, posing the subject matter to six contemporary artists. Featuring works from Danny Fox, Tesfaye Urgessa, Sujin Lee, Kottie Paloma and Angela Santana alongside iconic pieces from the likes of J. M. W. Turner, David Hockney and Pablo Picasso, there’s plenty to dive into.

Free your mind
British artist George Rouy is taking over South London’s Hannah Barry Gallery for his latest solo exhibition. Titled Body Suit, the showcase pulls down the wall between the internal and external, merging the mind and body through expressive imagery. Brought to life through his signature abstract style and subdued colour palette, the ten works on show explore the physical and psychological experiences of the figure.

We’ll have it all
Opened just last weekend, Leo’s is the latest endeavour from the team behind Juliet’s Quality Foods, seeing owners Julian Porter and Lauren Johns team up with chef Giuseppe Belvedere for a new bar and restaurant in Clapton. Taking over the space that was Jim’s Cafe (RIP), the greasy spoon exterior draws you into a sleek, minimalist white tableclothed interior. As for the grub, Belvedere is tapping into his Sardinian roots with dishes such as grilled asparagus topped with prosciutto served with a 60-month aged parmesan sauce, agnolotti stuffed with braised rabbit, and grilled lamb saddle. Paired with a drinks menu full of low-intervention Italian wines and negronis by night and espressos by day, Leo’s is a wonderful slice of Italy in the city.
