If there is one thing that Stone Island is known for it is its pioneering use of technical fabrics that transform mere jackets and coats into technological marvels. Now, that approach has found a new form in Stone Island’s brand new store in Perusastraße 2, Munich.

This isn’t just a simple bricks-and-mortar project, over three floors the new Stone Island flagship is a reflection of its surroundings and displays the latest in architectural innovation. The storefront is cut from local granite, blending into its surroundings in Munich’s Old Town, while the large front windows are one of the innovations of the global store concept: a visual display module, called the Chandelier, that is suspended from the ceiling, able to be tilted and rotated, or even lowered to become an illuminated display table.
At the back of the ground floor, a red resin wall is home to a connected series of video displays, each detailing various stages of Stone Island processes. In the basement, a community hub features tiered seating for lectures and events, as well as a display for special Stone Island pieces. The store’s walls are made from compressed layers of soil, resembling the veins that run through the earth, as shredded recycled paper and resins are compressed under high pressure to create the furnishings that appear like concrete.
With all of this going on, don’t forget to also have a look at the clothes!
