The Irony of it all
“Let’s put on our classics and have a little dance, shall we?” – the eternal lyrics of The Streets’ track Let’s Push Things Forward take on new meaning when, 22 years after the song’s release as part of seminal debut record Original Pirate Material, Mike Skinner finally has his own Reebok Classic’s.
Reimagining the signature footwear style, Skinner’s interpretation comes in a mixture of black nylon and nubuck, with The Streets’ classic block letter writing worked into the sidewalls, and their iconic lighter logo printed onto the sole of each sneaker. The shoes come in two colourways: chalk and gold, representing The Streets’ rise to fame, and black and gold, representing where Skinner sees himself today. The release comes alongside a campaign starring Skinner, coming nineteen years since the musician was the first UK artist to star in a Reebok campaign, featuring alongside the likes of Christina Ricci, Jay-Z and 50 Cent.
