The 2025 edition of the Loewe Foundation Craft Prize is here, and the shortlist of 30 artists has been unveiled. The craft works, which span mediums from ceramics, woodwork, textiles, furniture, paper, glass, metal, jewellery, and lacquer, will be displayed at the prestigious Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum in Madrid from May 30 to June 29, 2025.
Now in its 9th year, the prize has become one of the leading awards for craftsmanship worldwide, with this year’s finalists selected from 4,500 submissions across 132 countries and regions. A panel of experts carefully whittled down the list and the result is a diverse array of crafting talent from around the world.
Japan takes the lead in this year’s competition, with seven of the 30 finalists representing the country. The 30 artisans, representing eighteen different countries and regions, “explore the various ways artists reinterpret and modernise traditions,” according to Anatxu Zabalbeascoa, executive secretary of the Loewe Foundation Craft Prize Expert Panel.
A jury composed of twelve figures, including Loewe Creative Director Jonathan Anderson, will select the winner of the 2025 edition with the winner being awarded a prize of €50,000.
