Weekend Combo

Pink Floyd in Pompeii, flowers in the Saatchi, and a Kaytranada meet & greet
25 April 2025

Did you all have a good Easter weekend? We spent ours stuffing chocolate into our mouth. Then we spent this week feeling sick. Now, we go again – onwards and upwards!

Film

Ancient sounds
In 1971, Pink Floyd performed one of the most memorable gigs in music history in the ruins of the ancient Roman Amphitheater in Pompeii. Sans audience, the band played a set that blended their rock ‘n’ roll spirit with an ancient energy. Captured by filmmaker Adrian Maben, the footage was released the following year as the incredible film, Pink Floyd: Live at Pompeii, alongside footage of the band working on The Dark Side of the Moon at Abbey Road studios, and interviews with each member. The documentary itself is an iconic moment in music lore, particularly the scenes of Roger Waters banging a large gong on the upper wall of the amphitheatre like a Roman god, lit by the burning sun. Now, the film has been remastered and released for IMAX, bigger and better than ever.

Pink Floyd at Pompeii – MCMLXXII is screening now.

Pop-up

Marathon haven
This Sunday is the London Marathon, which will see many people run the famous 26 miles, and many other people watch it on TV in comfort with their feet up. Whether you’re the former or the latter, New Balance has a spot for you. Opening the doors to their recently-launched New Balance Townhouse, just steps from the finish line, from 8am on Sunday guests can enjoy live race day screenings alongside banner crafting workshops to show your support, a medal engraving service and recover zone with massage guns and ice boots for those who ran, and a manicure nail bar for a post-race treat – or a non-race treat, because let’s be honest it’s hard graft being such a supportive friend!

The New Balance Townhouse is located at 14 Cavendish Square, W1G 9DB, and is open from 8am on Sunday 27th April.

Exhibition

In bloom
It’s that wonderful time of the year when London becomes more colourful than ever – blossom trees paint the landscape, and wisteria twists and turns throughout the streets. Over at the Saatchi Gallery, they’ve brought nature indoors, paying homage to flowers as a source of artistic inspiration – from Monet’s Water Lilies to Takashi Murakami’s grinning  florets. Don’t miss Rebecca Louise Law’s incredible installation, which sees over 100,000 dried flowers take over one of the Gallery’s largest spaces – it’s a beautiful reminder of what is truly important.

FLOWERS: Flora in Contemporary Art & Culture runs at Saatchi Gallery until 5th May.

Gig

Church songs
New Zealand musician Marlon Williams returns to London for a very special show inside the St Pancras Old Church. Williams’ latest record, Te Whare Tīwekaweka, is a unique work which sees the songwriter leaning deeper into his Māori roots, creating a record entirely in his ancestral language. Performed live inside the iconic Old Church, this promises be an intimate and spellbinding show.

Marlon Williams plays at St Pancras Old Church on Friday 25th April.

Food + Drink

New Pub alert!
We love a new pub. And recently opened in Maida Vale, The Hero is a pub that ticks each and every box (plus we love the name, obvs). Decorated like something you’d see on The Modern House, the pub not only looks cool, but it serves great beer, has an excellent wine menu, and offers some very tasty gastropub grub. It’s the type of pub that’s equally perfect for one or two after work, or a romantic date night. On the menu, start with a cheese toastie, scotch egg or pumpkin and goats curd, before trying some modern twists on old classics: a chicken, leek and tarragon pie, ham, egg and chips, and sausage and mash. Then head upstairs to The Library for cocktails and a vinyl soundtrack.

The Hero is located at 55 Shirland Rd W9 2JD.
