Seven, Nine, Three

Notting Hill, Hockney, Diane Keaton: Daniel Fletcher unpicks his Mithridate references
By Barry Pierce | Fashion | 24 April 2025

Back in February, we got our first glimpse at Daniel Fletcher’s new vision for Mithridate. Blending the brand’s Chinese heritage with Fletcher’s own preppy styling, it was a bold new vision and one that (about time!) brought Fletcher back to the London Fashion Week schedule.

From today, a select number of pieces from that collection will be available to buy as part of a capsule collection named ‘Seven, Nine, Three’. A 30-piece edit, the capsule was borne from conversations Fletcher had with Alexa Chung, the face of Mithridate, earlier in the year. “I showed Alexa the collection when we shot it in New York at the start of the year,” Fletcher tells us, “and this capsule was put together based on my conversations with her, seeing what she was drawn to and how she put the clothes together.”

“We talked about the staples you find in a British wardrobe, and how those items like a navy crew neck jumper, a striped cotton oxford shirt, a double breasted blazer; these are things so many of us have some form of variation on and are what build the foundation of most of our outfits every day.” From there, Fletcher set about creating a capsule of wardrobe essentials pulled from his debut collection, establishing a solid base for the new-look Mithridate. Taking us through the moodboard references, Fletcher picks out “Hugh and Julia in Notting Hill, basically any 90s Richard Curtis film, some old portraits I found of David Hockney in his studio and some covetable Diane Keaton shirt collars.”

If you’re wondering about the name, the numbers each have a symbolic meaning derived from numerology. The number 7 is often associated with change, reflecting the brand’s new beginning. The number 9 is accomplishments and completion. And the number 3 represents upward growth and survival. All together, they point towards a solid future for Fletcher’s new Mithridate chapter.
