Shinola ‘The Black Blizzard’
Following the announcement of Shinola’s brand new London store and accompanying heritage range, the Detroit brand have just hit us with another exciting bulletin – the introduction of The Black Blizzard watch, the first titanium style by the leather goods and accessories outfitters.
Emblematic of the American spirit, the piece takes its name from the devastating dust storms that hit America during the 1930s Great Depression, forcing a mass exodus of displaced farmers to travel across the Great Plains in search of farmland and new homes. Shinola chose the name to pay homage to the tenacity and determination of those farmers – enduring American perseverance.
Now for the technics. Driven by an Argonite 5050 high-accuracy quartz chronograph movement it boasts a 20ATM depth rating – that’s ‘watch talk’ for tough as nails. It also features an iconic Shinola black dial, titanium sport turning top-ring, signature case back plate and is available in a 42mm and 48mm case with an additional black rubber strap in addition to the metal bracelet.
Each timepiece sold also includes a leather-bound coffee table book on the dust storms it’s named for, featuring rare photos, newspaper clippings, and a sharp hitting run down of the era. It’s fitting: in this violently fast paced world we can always use a a few page turns and a moment at slow-mo.
