Watch Dior Homme’s mental SS17 carnival set come to life
By Alex James Taylor | Fashion | 29 June 2016

Each season Dior Homme creative director Kris Van Assche transforms the Tennis Club de Paris into a physical interpretation of his latest vision. From SS16’s rose bush garden to last season’s neon skate park, it’s always a jaw-dropping experience walking through the doors to see what the designer has up his sleeve.

And SS17 sure lived up to expectation. ‘Dior Fun Fair’, read the show invite that acted as more of a rollercoaster stub for the acid house inspired thrill ride ahead. Within the grand space Van Assche had erected his own epic fun fair set based on the Sinksenfoor park in Antwerp.

Covered in carnival lights, the sculpture spiralled around the venue like a giant metal serpent, twisting in and out of itself. A nod to Manchester’s infamous Haçienda club, the set expanded the show’s subcultural outsider theme – after all, the club was Tony Wilson’s vision of hedonistic Valhalla, a social club welcome to all.

Creating such an epic construction is no easy task, here we share a special time-lapse film showing how it all happens. Take the ticket and enjoy the ride.
