2016 marks the 10 Year Anniversary of London-based designer Aitor Throup’s time in the fashion and design industry, and to celebrate the milestone he’s launching the official Aitor Throup website.
The comprehensive website will showcase the designer’s prolific body of work – featuring archived collections, initial sketches and former collaborations. Moving from Argentina to the UK at a young age, the Royal College of Art graduate became fascinated by the football fans that populated his adopted hometown of Burnley, Lancashire, and the brands they wore so proudly, such as Stone Island and C.P. Company, both of whom he would later work for.
Following a three-year hiatus, at this season’s LC:M Throup’s name once again appeared on the schedule. Well worth the wait, the designer presented his catwalk debut via a convention-defying presentation – built as a follow-up collection from his New Object Research collection, shown in 2013. Titled, The Rite of Spring / Summer / Autumn / Winter, models were replaced by life-size marionette puppets as Throup rejected the traditional format, opting for a conceptual offering that merged performance with fashion.
Through the decade, Throup has built up an impressive list of past collaborators, from brands such as Umbro and G-Star Raw, to video collaborations with musicians Damon Albarn and Kasabian – the band’s guitarist Serge Pizzorno also worked on the music for Throup’s SS17 show.
