Neil Barrett takes us to the school fields for his FW16 campaign
By Alex James Taylor | Fashion | 31 August 2016

For his FW16 campaign, Milan-based designer Neil Barrett tightened his shoelaces and took a trip back to the school fields.

Continuing the collection’s themes of athleticism and suiting, the corresponding imagery places the clothing close to the action. Inspired by memories of his childhood in Devon, the Scott Trindle-shot campaign “reflects Neil’s British childhood with a nostalgic touch of the 70’s” – think Gregory’s Girl without the retro hair styles and ill-fitting school uniforms.

Stocking the menswear wardrobe with pieces merging sportswear with sharp tailored cuts, is a trait synonymous with the British-born designer. Trackies and Prince of Wales patterns, go-faster stripes and peaked collars. Alongside the imagery comes a video directed by Julien Pujol showing Barrett’s cast wandering the school grounds in everyone’s dream uniform: John Motson-esque sheepskin jackets and football kit-inspired jerseys. Hey, Barrett, enroll us now.
