Domesticity and design
This season saw Canali pay homage to the brand’s home in the northern province of Brianza, an area of Italy synonymous with craftsmanship and furniture design. Brianza has filtered through Canali’s DNA since the house’s founding in 1934, fostering an ongoing dialogue with heritage evolved for the modern man.
Ideas of domesticity and design guided the collection, as traditional techniques, patterns and designs used in Italian interiors were fashioned into garments made to be worn inside and outside of the household. Garments were built to cut an effortless silhouette without compromising on craft, fluid coats belted at the waist to create a lounge effect that reimagined the shape of a robe, and the supple texture of knitwear was reminiscent of that found on armchairs and pillows. Lightweight suiting was cast in lush hues of navy, charcoal grey and chocolate brown, while the double-faced unlined constructions for which the brand is best known extended from outerwear and tailoring to shoes, ties, scarves and hats.
