ruff stuff
Comme des Garçons Homme Plus SS25 was ruff. Literally. This season, Rei Kawakubo meditated on ruffs, those decadent collars we associate with the Elizabethan era, but here given a distinctly CdG makeover, appearing in raven blacks and even adorning shoes. Naturally, Kawakubo blew apart some tailoring, turning it inside out and stitching it all purposefully wrong. Suit jackets and coats had their top layers rendered in gauze, which allowed us a glimpse inside the garments, revealing the pouches of the inside pockets and the panels that make up the lining. There was also amazing flashes of colour, with several hot pink looks that had typical CdG adornments, bunches of fabric attached like bows, and shorts with so many layers of tulle that they bulged to create a bottom-heavy silhouette. In a very fun twist, every model wore their hair in manic formation, every inch covered in multicoloured hair clips, as if they’d been attacked by a battalion of little girls.
