Dior SS25: performance artist Sagg Napoli shows off her archery skills
By Barry Pierce | Fashion | 25 September 2024

It was a distinctly monochrome collection for Dior’s SS25. Of the 82 looks (is Maria Grazia Chiuri the most prolific designer at a major house?), only a small handful dared to have a pop of colour. But, naturally, Chiuri has nothing to prove and this was her way of saying it — a whole collection in just black and white? Chic. Along the centre of the runway was a glass cage, inside of which, Italian performance artist and competitive archer Sagg Napoli took aim and fired arrows. A nice reference to the Olympic Games, which Paris just hosted and a subtle nod to one of the collection’s main reference points — the Amazone dress. The Amazone was created by Christian Dior for his FW52 collection and for SS25 it found itself reimagined by Maria Grazia Chiuri. A dress fit for a female warrior.

Elsewhere, shirts found themselves tailored so the collar went over the shoulder and black leather gloves rode all the way up the arm, acting as sleeves for dresses and coats. On foot, boxing shoes were laced up to the knee, as were an interesting pair of sandals that had gaiters attached. The practical wearability of the collection really stood out and you could almost imagine a certain type of lady who would turn up to the gym wearing nothing but SS25.
