Cross-continent
Inside Palais de Chaillot, Nigo presented his FW25 Kenzo collection against the backdrop of a glistening Eiffel Tower, soundtracked by a live performance from American cellist and composer Erik Friedlander at the centre of the show space. Continuing the conversation between East and West, the collection re-imagined concepts from Kenzo’s archive FW98 Train Show, building a wardrobe fit to commute from Tokyo to Paris.
Honouring a lifelong creative friendship, Nigo invited American artist Futura 2000 to put his stamp on the collection, designing imagery and iconography in a collaboration marked by the fusion of their monikers: ‘2000’ plus ‘Ni-go’ – which also means 2-5 in Japanese and equals the year 2025. Heritage British tailoring was given a distinctly Kenzo makeover as suiting was accented by fluffy shearling or rendered in hues of pastels while jackets were spliced with kimono-cut waistcoats. Motifs of the season were built on the idea of train journeys as speed-obscured imagery of landscapes and station signage decorated textured knitwear, jacquard denim and jersey t-shirts, and models carried bags overflowing with baguettes in a nod to our fashion week diet.
