Fashion round-up
Time flies, so to keep you in the loop, we’ve rounded up all the important snippets of fashion news from the past seven days into one neat feature. This week includes Loewe’s latest craft project, the ultimate bag for life from Balenciaga and Supreme’s hotly anticipated new flagship store in Milan.
Loewe launched their Weaves project with Sotheby’s
Launched in collaboration with Sotheby’s auction house, Loewe Weaves is the Spanish house’s latest commitment to celebrating craft. The idea is to explore the act of weaving as both a decorative craft and a structural technique, embodied by the brilliantly named Chestnut roaster from Galicia. This handmade clay pot is punctured with holes that provide a blank canvas for various weaving techniques from around the world. Seven artist-embellished roasters will be displayed at Sotheby’s marquee auctions later this month. We hope you’ve been saving…
The Loewe Weaves collection will be available at LOEWE stores and loewe.com from 27 May, 2021.
Browns re-launched their talent incubation programme
Back in the 90s, fashion boutique Browns ran a hugely successful initiative to help young designers find a foothold in the industry. Fast forward over twenty years and little has changed. The latest iteration of their Focus series sees a new roster of the hottest design talent across both mens and womenswear brought together in the name of nurturing collaboration. From Bianca Saunders to Maximillian Davis, Saul Nash and Connor Ives, it’s a whos-who of future icons.
Balenciaga dropped a new bag for life
Last year Balenciaga celebrated the launch of their new Objects line with a life-size sculpture of their Track.2 trainer cast in palladium and brass. This latest release, a grocery bag made from recycled plastic, is a little more modest and, in terms of practicality, firmly on the other end of the spectrum. Crafted from recycled ocean waste, including discarded fishing nets and old bits of carpet, the new bag is the ultimate bag for life because at £235 you certainly won’t be using it as an emergency bin-liner.
Dr. Martens released their second Rick Owens collab
Some collaborations are simply meant to be. A case in point: Dr. Martens and Rick Owens, lovers of grungey non-conformism who have just dropped their second joint collection. After the pentagram lacing of their first collab back in March this year, this new venture sees the introduction of new gladiator-style sandal and a classic DM silhouette given an equally classic Owens twist.

Supreme finally opened their new Milan store
For Italian fans of Supreme, the opening of the brand’s first store in the country has been a tortuous two-year wait. Rumours have circulated for some time but this week the Milan store was finally unveiled, giving legions of its teenage fans a new point of pilgrimage. With interior decor courtesy of Nate Lowman and sculptures by Mark Gonzalez, we’re sure it won’t be long until the queues stretch round the block.
