That’s a party

Dsquared2’s 30th: a Doechii performance, Naomi Campbell in leather, and Brigitte Nielsen as a kinky cop

Take a deep breath. Now, that was a thrill. We knew that Dan and Dean’s 30th anniversary show would be something major, but we didn’t expect that. The showspace was transformed into Dsquared2 Bros Co, the hottest warehouse nightclub in town, so hot it spills out onto the street (runway) each night without fail. Suddenly an armoured tank pulls up (of course) and hip hop’s hottest property Doechii springs out wearing a deconstructed corseted bomber jacket, denim shorts and an oversized camping backpack overspilling with dollar bills. Her top reads ‘Iconique’ and as the musician walks to a remix of her own track NISSAN ALTIMA with a cigarette in her mouth, her top was right.

The adrenaline never dipped. Out came Alex Consani in a fur cloak, hip-riding patent leather trousers and a black Stetson looking like Madonna’s favourite dream, and Irina Shayk in an embellished netted dress with bejewelled pants and a signature oversized furry Dsquared2 hat. Laron Gigger roller-skated his way down the runway – back-flipping into the splits!! – in a shimmering disco jacket, net tank top and short shorts, while decadent feather boas grew from Amelia Gray’s arms, and Alton Mason was Dsquared2’s very own rhinestone cowboy in silver tassel jeans. Bombers were spliced with denim jackets, cowboy hats over trucker caps, Tom of Finland studded leathers alongside New York Dolls skinny tees, and one model wore a bustier top made exclusively from black and brown leather belts wrapped around her torso.

Collaborations with Magliano, Vaquera, and Bettter reimagined archive pieces as a trio of male models painted in KISS face make-up wore tailored suits and the highest of platform boots – the brand have just launched a collection inspired by the band’s iconic 1975 Alive! Tour merch – and rapper NLE Choppa showed off his tats with an open leather shearling jacket and shorts worn like chaps strapped over jeans.

Then came Naomi Campbell to close the show in a leather-tied and zipped biker one-piece with leather thigh-high boots. It was hot. But what’s this? Sirens! An NYPD car pulls up and Brigitte Nielsen gets out in a particularly kinky police outfit with Dan and Dean – cuffed, but not for long. The show finished with Doechii returning to the runway with rapper JT for a live performance of their hit track Alter Ego.
