Duran Lantink FW25: animalistic outfits and prosthetic body parts

Yesterday, Duran Lantink took over Bureau Betak’s new headquarters in Paris’ 6th arrondissement, presenting his FW25 collection among piles of paperwork and pristine white office desks. The minimalist backdrop was a far cry from the designer’s unflinching collection, aptly titled Duranimal, which revolved around bold use of animal prints.

Leaning fully into his study of maximalism, clashing prints formed the basis of the collection as snake, leopard, zebra and camouflage worked in conflicting harmony. Notably, it wasn’t just the clothes themselves that hit the runway in animal print, many of the models – including Leon Dame – were hand-painted head to toe in zebra and leopard. Departing from his synonymous bulbous forms and bubble creations, the Dutch designer turned to a more tapered silhouette with outerwear and skirts arriving in A-line cuts, trousers tailored only with a slight kick flare and printed trench coats belted tightly at the waist.

Playful nods to Americana were felt in Lantink’s take on varsity jackets and denim, producing ‘bareback’ jeans which exposed models’ butt cheeks like chaps. Created with a “Wild West meets futuristic” aesthetic in mind, the first and last looks of the collection featured prosthetic body parts. Mica Argañaraz showed off an impressive six-pack, and another model wore a set of prosthetic breasts. “I love the idea of women as action figures, I think everyone should feel empowered to create their own identity and not feel restricted by anything,” said Lantink.
