Soft elegance
A portrait of a female model wearing a suit photographed by Tom Munro provided the backdrop for the Emporio Armani SS25 show. It was a singular moodboard that reflected the collection on show. Here was the brand celebrating its meticulous tailoring through a sense of soft elegance and refined ease. “The tie,” read the show notes, “Originally worn by women as an elegant and provocative declaration of gender equality, becomes a playful trend.”
To the first look: a white, fitted blazer worn over a pale grey shirt, tie and trouser combo. Imagine Annie Hall if she’d moved 10 blocks further north. From there, suiting transformed, worn loose, pleated, draped, tied, shirtless and open-collared. There was a very contemporary spirit to the way fabrics were able to move and morph with the wearer, as neutral tones mixed with bursts of colour, pattern and graphics. Menswear followed suit (no pun intended), drawn in romantic, soft silhouettes with super wide-leg volume and sports-inspired detailing. After the show, Mr Armani invited everyone to an afterparty to celebrate the reopening of the brand’s flagship Milan store on Via Manzoni, emphasising this season’s message: get loose.
