After-hours
It’s a Thursday night in Paris and Isabel Marant’s crew know where’s hot. In sheer guipure tops, tough leather bikers, floral fishnets, twisted suiting and hot pants, if you see them, take note – that’s where the party’s at. (The personification of this, Kate Moss sat front row.)
This season, creative director Kim Bekker – the designer taking the lead this time – amped up Marant signatures with a seductive, after-hours attitude. Big shoulder-cinched waist blazers, pinstripes and polka boots were very NYC New Wave – Debbie Harry would look great in those polka dot ankle boots, hell, so would Ric Ocasek – while distressed knits, tartan, asymmetrical tailoring and accessories crafted from chains and safety pins brought a punk sensibility to the stage. Straps and belts either hung from silhouettes or wrapped around the waist with New Romantic cool, and Joan Jett black leather was crafted into a supple trench with silver grommet hardware details. Menswear echoed women’s, in baggy plaid shirts, denim waistcoats, structured wool outerwear, and embellished neckwear – plus, we’re very into the one-black-one-white boots of Look 46.
