Fresh from their guest spot at Pitti Uomo in January, MM6 returned to Milan this season with a collection based around ideas of enlarging and reducing. One of Martin Margiela’s favourite silhouettes, the enlarged garments had a distinctly 80s boxiness to them, with one particular grey jacket looking pilfered from the wardrobe from David Byrne. The overall aesthetic of the show stuck closely with the current trend of elevated office-wear that we’ve been seeing a lot over recent seasons. Sensible kitten heels, knee-length pencil skirts, button-up short sleeve shirts but, since this is MM6, the shirts are oddly padded and pillow-like. In one excellent look, a suit jacket is so oversized that it droops on the body like a shawl.
