My Lagan Love
This season, Róisín Pierce returned to the Irish Embassy in Paris for a salon-style presentation that evoked the golden era of fashion. Pierce’s designs have always been delicate, but this season, she made it a central theme. Titled Nothing Pure Can Stay, the collection draws inspiration from great writers such as Nabokov, Plath, and Proust, meditating on transience and decay. According to the show notes, the collection “summons the ephemeral and invites us to savour fleeting moments.”
The garments featured many of Pierce’s signature flourishes – ruffles, ruching, floral motifs, and delicate crochet. While she typically feels at home in the world of white, Pierce daringly explored darker tones this season, incorporating deep blues and blacks. These darker pieces stood out, such as Look 10, which could be described as Pierce’s take on athleisure.
This season introduced two notable collaborations. The legendary Stephen Jones lent his expertise to the headwear, creating a dreamy and coquettish series of pieces. Meanwhile, the bags were a collaboration with Polène, box and sphere silhouettes adorned with bows. Endlessly desirable.
The soundtrack, crafted by Simon Parris (the man behind Kim Jones’ show soundtracks), added a special layer to the presentation. The words of Nabokov and Plath were read by Pierce herself, while her mother, Angie, sang the traditional Irish song My Lagan Love. Pierce consistently anchors her collections and presentations in her homeland, and as the only homegrown Irish brand on the Paris Fashion Week schedule, it’s heartening to see her bringing it all back home.
