Raw Glamour

“What does femininity mean today?” mused Prada’s FW25 collection

For the past few seasons, Prada have tackled huge questions and concepts through their collections. This season – titled Raw Glamour – it was the concept of femininity that was under interrogation. “What does femininity mean today?” mused Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons in the collection notes.

Returning to the Fondazione Prada and the scaffolding set we saw at Men’s FW25, staples of womenswear found themselves re-contextualised and reconsidered. Four simple black dresses opened the show, cut so that they moved strangely on the body, as proportions morphed on coats with giant coffee coaster buttons. Throughout, silhouettes were generously cut – echoing a liberation of body and mind – and minimalist, deconstructed pieces had frayed edges, returning the clothes back to their basest forms as pieces of fabric. In a purposeful contrast, the accessories were decadent. Handbags were rendered in leather and suede, little trinkets hung from silver chains, and the heels drew attention to their construction, the leather seams remaining untrimmed.
